The Bluffton Police Department Bike Patrol began in 1997 with two officers. It has grown to six officers including Brent Archbold, Andy Ellis, Geoff Gilbert, Mike Miller, Greg Steele and Chip Swindell.

Along with general patrol duties, the bike patrol is utilized to patrol the River Greenway, the annual Bluffton Free Street Fair and provide bicycle safety training as well as other special events.

The officers ride mountain bikes equipped with red and blue lights. The officers undergo an intensive 40 hour training and are International Police Mountain Bike Association certified.
